Information About Bridgwater Armed Forces Day

So, what is Armed Forces Day?  Originally known as Veterans’ Day, the first event was held on Saturday 27th June 2006. The date was chosen as it came the day after the anniversary of the first investiture of the Victoria Cross in Hyde Park, London, in 1857. The event became known as Armed Forces Day in 2009, and the NATIONAL event is now held annually on the last Saturday in June

But, not everyone can go to the National event, and so other towns and cities across the UK have taken up the opportunity, to recognise the sacrifices of our Armed Forces both serving and Veteran, and their unique place in our Nation’s history over many years.

Bridgwater is no exception, and in 2023 the local Royal British Legion branch formed a team of Volunteers both Veteran and Non-Veteran to help bring the free to enter, open to all, Armed Forces Day to the town.
